How much does it cost?

A whole beef costs approximately $1,480.
A half beef costs approximately $760
A quarter beef costs approximately $390


Processing costs:
Whole - $350 and higher
Half- $175 and higher
Quarter - $100 and higher
*Prices increase based on your cutting instructions, boneless steaks, hamburger patties, etc.

Can I purchase individual cuts?

Yes! Steaks, ground beef, and roasts will be available for purchase at our farm south of Indianapolis.

Whom do I pay?

You will pay Dougherty Farm Fresh Beef for the beef and you will pay the processor for the processing.

How many pounds of beef will I receive?


Beef carcass weighs about 200 Lbs. of beef
Beef carcass weighs about 400 Lbs. of beef
A whole beef will yield about 800 Lbs. of beef.


*While beef is dry aged about 2% shrinkage will occur with your meat. Also, some bones and extra fat are removed during processing. Typically, about 25-40% is "thrown away" meaning bones and fat are removed when the processor begins cutting the carcass. This 25-40% is referred to as a cutting loss.

Do you deliver beef to customers?

We do not deliver due to liability reasons. You are required to pick up your beef from the processor.

Once beef is delivered to the processing facility, when can I pick up my order?

Between 2-3 weeks. The beef will hang for approximately 14 days before it is processed into the cuts you want. Then the beef will be frozen solid.

Can I pick up my order from the processor before I pay Dougherty Farms for the beef?

No. You will not be able to pick up your beef until you pay Dougherty Farm Fresh Beef.

How do I know which beef cuts are best for my family?

We will be happy to help you decide which beef cuts you will enjoy the most.

What is the smallest amount I can order?

The smallest amount you can order is beef. Or you can purchase individual cuts from our farm. We encourage you to call or email us before coming out to purchase beef. This will ensure we have the cuts you want and that someone will be at the farm to meet you.

How much freezer space do I need?

One cubic foot of freezer space will hold approximately 30 Lbs. of beef.

How long will the beef last in the freezer?

Approximately one year.

What is the age of the steer at processing time?

14-20 months.

What is the breed of cattle on your farm?

Black Angus

How are the cattle fed and cared for?

The cattle eat a diet of corn, hay or grass, and a nutritional soybean supplement. A corn-fed diet results in a more tender and tastier beef. The steers are out on pasture and they have access to a barn year-round. We are highly committed to quality assurance, environmental stewardship, and animal welfare.
